
Lightly Salted Herring in a Jar

Prepare the ingredients.

Prepare the brine. To do this, bring water to a boil, add salt, sugar, pepper, and a bay leaf. From the moment it starts boiling, simmer for 2–3 minutes. Remove from the heat and cool to room temperature.

Clean the herring, prepare fillets from it, and cut into pieces.

Layer the herring in jars in layers, alternating with rings of onion.

Pour the cooled brine over the herring. Place the jars in a cool place.

In about two days, the herring will be ready. Serve it with boiled potatoes, dill, and rings of salad onion, and drizzle with fragrant vegetable oil. It’s very delicious—believe me!
