Lazy cabbage rolls in tomato sauce
Description
The dish is prepared without unnecessary complications. Even my children love these quick cabbage rolls and happily eat them, despite the fact that it's usually impossible to get them to eat rice, let alone cabbage. In this dish, everything combines so well and the flavors are so perfectly matched that it's impossible not to love these cabbage rolls. I highly recommend trying them. The dish is ready to serve.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare all the necessary ingredients.
- 2
Step 2

Finely shred the cabbage. You can adjust the amount of cabbage to your preference.
- 3
Step 3

Pour boiling water over the cabbage and let it sit for 15 minutes. If the cabbage is very firm, you can boil it for 3–5 minutes, then leave it to cool in the hot water.
- 4
Step 4

Boil the rice until half-cooked. Drain off the excess liquid.
- 5
Step 5

Grate the carrot on a fine grater, and finely chop the onion with a knife. Divide the onion and carrot into 2 parts.
- 6
Step 6

Fry one half of the onion and carrot in vegetable oil until soft.
- 7
Step 7

Mix the ground meat, boiled rice, and sautéed vegetables. Add cabbage, previously drained in a colander and squeezed by hand to remove excess liquid. Season with salt to taste, add pepper, paprika, and any preferred spices. Mix well.

Step 8

Shape the mixture into small, elongated patties. Place the patties into a baking dish. Put the dish in an oven preheated to 200°C (392°F) and bake for 15–20 minutes.
- 9
Step 9

Meanwhile, prepare the sauce. Sauté the remaining onion and carrot in vegetable oil. Add tomato paste and mix well.
- 10
Step 10

Add tomato juice and a little water. If you don't have juice, you can simply add water to dilute the tomato paste and make the sauce liquid. I added 150 ml of tomato juice and about 50 ml of water. My juice is slightly sour, so I added half a tablespoon of sugar and sweet paprika. Let the sauce simmer for 3-4 minutes.
- 11
Step 11

Pour the sauce over our lazy cabbage rolls, which have already had time to slightly bake and thicken, so they will hold their shape even after simmering, then return them to the oven for another 20-25 minutes. Bake until fully cooked.

Step 12

These are the delicious lazy cabbage rolls I ended up with.
