Kvass
Description
The drink is quick and easy to prepare. Making "Yadreny Kvas" is very simple—you can use a ready-made bread mix or simply roast rye bread in the oven until dark, then use it as a base for the kvas. The addition of raisins gives the kvas its distinctive strength. Follow the step-by-step recipe, and this delicious drink will always be on your table.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the ingredients.
- 2
Step 2

Boil the water, remove from heat, add dry bread kvass, cover with a lid. Leave to cool to approximately 36 degrees.
- 3
Step 3

Strain the cooled kvass through a sieve.
- 4
Step 4

Into a 3-liter jar, add sugar, dry yeast, and raisins.
- 5
Step 5

Pour in the strained kvass. Active fermentation can be observed after just 15-20 minutes.
- 6
Step 6

After 12 hours of fermentation, active fermentation can be observed throughout the entire jar, with the raisins floating to the surface.
- 7
Step 7

Strain the beverage, chill it, and serve. The kvass turns out strong, highly carbonated, and refreshing—suitable both for drinking and for preparing okroshka (a cold soup). The first batch of kvass may be slightly alcoholic due to the yeast content. Therefore, do not completely discard the sediment left after brewing; use it as a starter for the next batch of kvass, which will no longer have alcoholic properties. The preparation method remains the same, except that no additional yeast is needed.
