
Chicken pie made with yeast dough and potatoes
Description
Delicious baked dish for the whole family. Kurник usually refers to a pancake pie with chicken, but there are also versions made with puff pastry or yeast dough. In terms of flavor, this dish is quite similar to kubite. Anyway, I highly recommend giving it a try. Serve cooled or slightly warm.

To prepare kurник, sift the flour into a bowl. Sifting the flour is essential, as it helps the dough rise faster later.

Place dry active yeast into a cup. Add 1 egg (it should be at room temperature). Add 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Pour in warm water until the total liquid volume in the cup reaches one cup (250 ml). Stir well. Let the mixture sit undisturbed for 20 minutes. The yeast will activate. Pour the yeast mixture into the flour. Knead the dough.

The dough can be kneaded by hand or with a mixer. At the end of kneading, add 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the dough.

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place. I placed the bowl with the dough on the table near the radiator. My dough rose in 1.5 hours.

While the dough is rising, peel the potatoes. Cut them into small cubes, otherwise larger pieces will not cook through completely.

Divide the dough into two pieces. With this dough, I made two kurniks. Roll out one piece of dough into a 1.5 cm thick layer. Place the dough into a baking form. Trim the excess. Put sliced boiled chicken and potatoes on top of the dough. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Use the leftover dough scraps to form strips, which you'll use to decorate the kurnik. Let your imagination run free—decorate the pie however you like. Brush the pie with beaten egg yolk.

Carefully pour 3-4 tablespoons of milk into the gaps between the dough and the filling. If you do this before the pie is shaped, there is a risk that the pie will spread. You won't be able to shape it neatly, as the dough will become wet. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Bake the pie in the oven for 40 minutes until golden brown.
