Chicken in red sauce
Description
The recipe won't take much time. Chicken in red sauce is very simple and quick to prepare. The base of the red sauce is tomato paste or ketchup, as you prefer. I prefer the first option, as it contains no vinegar or other additives, and the sauce has a richer color and a more natural taste. The sweet and sour sauce pairs perfectly with tender chicken meat and side dishes, which are served topped with this sauce. Alternatively, you can enjoy this dish without any sides, simply dipping fresh bread into the delicious red sauce. Serve hot.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the ingredients for making chicken in red sauce.
- 2
Step 2

Wash the chicken drumsticks and thighs, dry them, and place them on a hot skillet with a small amount of sunflower oil.
- 3
Step 3

Sear the chicken on all sides until a light golden crust forms. The chicken will release fat during cooking, and it will fry in this fat. If there is too much fat, simply drain the excess.
- 4
Step 4

Peel the onion, wash it, and chop it into pieces of arbitrary size. Then add it to the pan with the chicken.
- 5
Step 5

Fry the onion with the chicken for 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally. Do not over-brown the onion; it should become translucent.
- 6
Step 6

Place the onion and chicken into a suitable deep pot, preferably with a thick bottom. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Pour in 250-300 ml of water. Cover the pot with a lid.
- 7
Step 7

After 20-25 minutes, when the chicken is done (the juice runs clear when pierced), add tomato paste and sugar to taste to the pot. Mix the chicken well with the sauce. Heat the dish for another 5 minutes over low heat, then turn off the heat.
- 8
Step 8

Add minced garlic to the finished dish and mix.

Step 9

The chicken in red sauce is ready. Serve this fragrant, delicious dish sprinkled with fresh herbs, with any side dish or simply with fresh bread.
