Beijing-style chicken in sweet and sour sauce
Description
The recipe won't take much time. Traditional Chinese cuisine offers a great variety of interesting dishes—some quite simple, others very complex—but most of them have a completely unusual, even unfamiliar taste for us. However, this recipe for Peking-style chicken in sweet and sour sauce is one of the most popular today, and many have already tried making it at home. Today, we'll prepare this wonderful dish together, and I'll guide you through making Peking-style chicken in sweet and sour sauce at home. There's absolutely nothing complicated here; although the process will take about an hour, you'll easily manage it. Afterwards, you can cook some Chinese noodles and arrange a full Asian-style evening—a little celebration for the soul and, of course, the stomach. Serve hot.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Rinse the chicken fillet under cold water and let it dry slightly, then cut it into strips about 1.5 centimeters wide.
- 2
Step 2

Mix soy sauce with grated ginger and pour this marinade over the sliced chicken. Let it marinate in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes.
- 3
Step 3

Peel the onion and slice it into half-rings.
- 4
Step 4

Dice the celery into small cubes.
- 5
Step 5

Peel and wash the carrots and bell pepper. Remove the seeds from the pepper and slice everything into thin strips.
- 6
Step 6

Remove the chicken from the refrigerator and add cornstarch, then mix well.
- 7
Step 7

In a separate bowl, break the eggs and add the flour, mix thoroughly until smooth.
- 8
Step 8

We mix the prepared batter with the marinated chicken fillet.
- 9
Step 9

In a skillet, heat vegetable oil and fry the pieces of fillet until a golden crust forms.
- 10
Step 10

In another skillet, heat the oil as well and start sautéing the onion. Fry for a couple of minutes, then add the chopped celery.
- 11
Step 11

Now add the carrots and sauté for a few more minutes.
- 12
Step 12

Add bell pepper and mix all the ingredients.
- 13
Step 13

Simmer the vegetable mixture over medium heat until partially cooked.
- 14
Step 14

While the vegetables are simmering, we'll prepare the sauce. In a saucepan, mix tomato paste, water, and pineapple juice; soy sauce can be added optionally. Place the saucepan over low heat, add sugar, and heat until the sugar completely dissolves.
- 15
Step 15

Now add the fried chicken to the pan with the vegetables, add the pineapple, and pour the prepared sauce over everything. Mix well and simmer over low heat for 10-15 minutes. Our chicken is now ready and can be served.
