Instructions

Step 1

1. This incredibly simple salt-baked chicken recipe requires only 3 ingredients. Moreover, lemon is completely optional and not always used. However, lemon adds extra flavor, so if you have it on hand, I'd recommend using it.

Step 2

2. You really need quite a lot of salt. Spread it onto a baking sheet or in a baking dish, and level it with your hand or a spatula. Don't worry that the dish will end up too salty—this won't happen. The chicken will absorb exactly as much salt as it needs and no more than a gram.

Step 3

3. The chicken should be washed and thoroughly dried. This is quite important, as wet chicken may stick to the salt. It can be cut if desired, but it looks much more festive when left whole. Place the completely dry chicken on the salt, having previously put a washed and dried lemon in the center.

Step 4

4. The chicken can be placed in a well-heated oven. No additional marinades or spices are needed. Optionally, you can brush it with sour cream or tomato sauce, but thanks to the salt, it will be quite juicy and flavorful even without extra seasonings.

Step 5

5. Depending on the oven and temperature, the dish will be ready in 1–1.5 hours. Then carefully remove the chicken from the salt and serve immediately.
