Description

The recipe won't take much time. Koulibiaka is traditionally made with meat, fish, eggs, or mushrooms, sometimes combining these ingredients in various ways. I suggest you try making koulibiaka with cabbage—delicious, tender, and very appetizing. This pastry can be served as a snack during the day or as a side dish to main courses. The juicy, flavorful filling paired with soft, airy dough will delight both children and adults. The pastry is ready. Serve it at the table.

First, prepare the dough. To do this, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast, then let it sit for 10–15 minutes until a characteristic "foam" forms on top.

    Step 3

In a deep bowl, beat the egg with vegetable oil. Add the yeast mixture.

    Step 6

Now, gradually adding the remaining flour, knead a soft dough and shape it into a ball. You might use slightly more or less flour than specified in the recipe; the dough should come away from your hands but not be too stiff.

  7. 7

    Step 7

    Step 7

Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let it sit in a warm place for about an hour. During this time, the dough should rise significantly.

  8. 8

    Step 8

    Step 8

While the dough was rising, you needed to prepare the filling. For this, finely chop the cabbage, grate the carrots on a grater, and cut the onion into small cubes. Sauté the vegetables in vegetable oil until cooked. During cooking, season the filling with salt and add ground black pepper to taste.

  9. 9

    Step 9

    Step 9

Divide the dough into two parts. Roll each part into a rectangle on a floured surface. Place the filling in the center, and make angled cuts with a knife along the sides.

  10. 10

    Step 10

    Step 10

Fold the filling with the slotted edges overlapping, creating a sort of braid.
