Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare all the necessary ingredients.
- 2
Step 2

First, prepare the dough. To do this, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast, then let it sit for 10–15 minutes until a characteristic "foam" forms on top.
- 3
Step 3

In a deep bowl, beat the egg with vegetable oil. Add the yeast mixture.
- 4
Step 4

Mix and add a cup of flour.
- 5
Step 5

Mix everything once again.
- 6
Step 6

Now, gradually adding the remaining flour, knead a soft dough and shape it into a ball. You might use slightly more or less flour than specified in the recipe; the dough should come away from your hands but not be too stiff.
- 7
Step 7

Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let it sit in a warm place for about an hour. During this time, the dough should rise significantly.
- 8
Step 8

While the dough was rising, you needed to prepare the filling. For this, finely chop the cabbage, grate the carrots on a grater, and cut the onion into small cubes. Sauté the vegetables in vegetable oil until cooked. During cooking, season the filling with salt and add ground black pepper to taste.
- 9
Step 9

Divide the dough into two parts. Roll each part into a rectangle on a floured surface. Place the filling in the center, and make angled cuts with a knife along the sides.
- 10
Step 10

Fold the filling with the slotted edges overlapping, creating a sort of braid.
- 11
Step 11

Place the kulebyaki on a greased baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with egg yolk. Optionally, sprinkle the top with sesame seeds.
- 12
Step 12

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and bake for about 30 minutes until a golden crust forms.
- 13
Step 13

Delicious, aromatic, and golden cabbage pirog is ready!
