
Corn bread with sausage and apples
Description
Perfect for the table and with drinks. This unusual aromatic dish can be served on its own or as an addition to a side dish. You can also stuff turkey with the prepared mixture. It can be served warm or chilled.

1. Cut the bread into cubes. Let the bread sit for several hours or overnight so it dries out.

2. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Wash the mushrooms and pat dry thoroughly with a paper towel. In a bowl, mix canola oil and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Add the mushrooms and toss to coat. Spread the mushrooms on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for at least 20 minutes, stirring halfway through. Remove from the oven when the mushrooms are dark brown. Set aside.

3. Dice the onion. Cut the apples. In a large skillet, sauté the Italian sausage over medium heat. Set aside.

4. Add the sliced onion to the pan and fry for 5 minutes. Increase the heat and add the sliced apples, brown sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Cook for 3–5 minutes, until deep golden brown.

5. Reduce the heat to medium and pour in the wine. Stir and cook until the liquid has reduced by half, about 2–3 minutes. Pour the apple-onion mixture into a bowl and set aside.

6. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add thyme, turmeric, rosemary, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and pepper. Cook for a few minutes, then set aside. Finely chop the parsley.

7. Place the bread in a large bowl, then add the fried sausage, mushrooms, and the apple-onion mixture and mix. At the end, add the seasonings and parsley. Transfer to a large baking dish and bake at 190 degrees for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown on top.
