Pour water into a cast-iron pot or saucepan and add the grain. Use a 1:4 ratio of grain to water (for example, 4 cups of water per 1 cup of grain). Place the pot on the stove and bring the water to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to the lowest setting and let the grain simmer for 1.5 hours. Remember to stir occasionally and add more water if needed.
