Cherry Braid
Description
The recipe won't take much time. Cozy homemade baking. Yeast dough requires following certain rules, and if you master them, the yeast baked goods will always turn out well. With the slant, of course, you'll have to work a bit, but the result is worth it. I will tell you. Serve it cooled or slightly warm.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Melt the butter and let it cool to room temperature. Slightly warm the milk (no hotter than 40°), add the yeast and sugar, and let it sit for 15–20 minutes. The mixture should become bubbly.
- 2
Step 2

Sift the flour into a large bowl, add a pinch of salt.
- 3
Step 3

Make a well in the flour, pour in the milk and butter, stirring the dough with a fork at the same time. Knead the dough by hand. It should become elastic and not stick to your hands. Transfer it to a clean, butter‑greased dish and turn the dough several times so it gets coated with butter. Cover with a towel and let it rise for 1–1.5 hours.
- 4
Step 4

For the filling, place in a bowl: cottage cheese, egg, sugar, starch, zest and juice. Mix thoroughly.
- 5
Step 5

Add the cherries, mix again.
- 6
Step 6

Roll out the dough into a large rectangle, transfer it onto a sheet of parchment paper, and place it with the narrow side toward you. Mark three strips with a knife to divide the dough into three parts. Cut the outer strips at a 45° angle and 1 cm thick.
- 7
Step 7

Place the filling on the central strip and braid it. Brush the top with beaten egg and let it proof for 20 minutes.
- 8
Step 8

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Bake the braid for 25–30 minutes. Cool and dust with powdered sugar.
