Jam turnovers
Description
The pastry is simple and quick to prepare. These little jam-filled pastries were made not only by my mom when I was a child, but also sold at the school canteen. If you have ready-made puff pastry on hand, you can prepare them in just half an hour. Additionally, these jam pastries can also be made using yeast dough. There are many variations—you just need to let your imagination run wild. Serve with tea or coffee.

Step 1

1. If you have puff pastry on hand, making jam turnovers is the easiest thing in the world. Roll out the pastry and cut it into squares of the desired size.

Step 2

2. Place the filling—jam or preserves—into the center of each square. If you're using, for example, cherry or apricot jam, add a bit of starch on top. During baking, the starch will thicken the liquid jam into a gel-like consistency, preventing it from leaking out.

Step 3

3. Seal the corners of the dough in the center.

Step 4

4. I usually brush the finished pastries with egg yolk and bake them in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

Step 5

5. Let them cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
