Description

Nothing compares to homemade apple compote! You can add ice on hot summer days, serve it warm, or stir in some blueberry jam for extra color. You can prepare apple compote in less than half an hour. The key is to choose good, eco-friendly apples—you might not even need to add sugar. Simply sweeten the cooled compote with honey. First, thoroughly rinse the apples. You don't need to peel them. Then follow these steps for making apple compote: 1. Cut the apples into 6–8 slices, removing the seeds and stems. 2. Place the apple slices into a saucepan, pour in cold water, and set on medium heat. 3. Immediately add a couple of spoons of sugar to the apples. 4. As soon as the compote starts to boil, add the remaining sugar, stir until dissolved, then immediately remove from heat. Keep in mind that the longer you cook the compote, the fewer vitamins it retains. If desired, you can add a handful of blackcurrants, blueberries, or a pear along with the apples—this will give the compote a new color and flavor. 5. Let the compote steep for about 30 minutes. Then, if desired, strain it through a sieve, removing the apple pieces—they've already done their job. Enjoy the compote warm or completely cooled.
