Orange and lemon compote
Description
The recipe won't take much time. Orange and lemon compote can be served hot in winter and chilled with ice in summer. This drink is suitable not only for home consumption but also for outdoor picnics. It's advisable to remove the zest from oranges and lemons, as it can be bitter, though the bitterness can be removed by scalding the citrus fruits for 1 minute.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the listed ingredients.
- 2
Step 2

Blanch the citrus fruits with boiling water and remove the zest from the orange—it can be bitter. Use it in other recipes. Then cut the fruit into four pieces and remove any seeds if present. Slice and place the slices into a saucepan.

Step 3

Cut the lemon in the same way as the orange, remove the seeds, slice half of the citrus, and add it to the saucepan.
- 4
Step 4

Add granulated sugar. You can optionally add vanilla sugar or vanilla flavoring.
- 5
Step 5

Pour in warm water and place the container on the stove. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium, and cook for about 15-20 minutes.
- 6
Step 6

Taste the ready compote; sometimes you may need to add a little granulated sugar if the orange was not sweet enough.

Step 7

Pour the compote into a jug, bowls, or glasses, and serve hot or cold—it's equally delicious!
