Thyme and vodka cocktail

Description
In a small saucepan, combine 2 cups of water with sugar and thyme. Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve into a large glass bowl. You should have 2 cups of syrup. Cover with a plastic lid and refrigerate. Pour the syrup into a large pitcher, mix in lemon juice, and garnish with thyme. Divide equally among 8 glasses, add ice, and serve immediately, chilled.
