Strawberry Buttermilk Pie
Description
Homemade pastry for tea. This pie won't take much time and makes a great option to serve with tea, treat your colleagues, or take along as a snack. This recipe includes both baking powder and baking soda—do not omit or substitute either. They work perfectly together, remain undetectable in taste, and help the pie stay soft for longer. Use firm, fully ripe berries to avoid excess juice.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare all the necessary ingredients for making buttermilk strawberry pie. Take the butter out in advance so it softens.
- 2
Step 2

Wash the strawberries, dry them, and remove the green part. Cut the berries in half or leave them whole if they are not very large.
- 3
Step 3

Place the soft butter and salt in a bowl, and add the sugar.
- 4
Step 4

Add lemon zest to the bowl. Beat well until fluffy.
- 5
Step 5

Add the egg to the mixture and beat again until smooth.
- 6
Step 6

Mix the flour with baking powder and baking soda, then sift.
- 7
Step 7

Pour 1/3 of the buttermilk into a bowl.
- 8
Step 8

Add 1/3 of the flour to the mixture and beat at low speed until smooth.
- 9
Step 9

Continue adding 1/3 of the flour and buttermilk, kneading until you get a soft, fluffy dough.
- 10
Step 10

Grease a baking pan with vegetable oil and sprinkle with flour. This creates a so-called "French lining," which will help remove the cake effortlessly.
- 11
Step 11

Transfer the dough to a baking dish and smooth it out. Place strawberries on top of the dough and sprinkle with sugar.
- 12
Step 12

Place the pie pan in a preheated oven and bake at 180 degrees for 30–40 minutes, until done.
- 13
Step 13

Remove the strawberry buttermilk pie from the oven and let it cool completely in the pan.
- 14
Step 14

Remove from the oven and serve warm or cooled.
