
Chinese sweet and sour sauce with pineapples

Prepare all the ingredients.

Drain the pineapple syrup from the can and measure the required amount for the sauce. Drain the pineapples in a colander and cut them into medium-sized cubes if using pineapple rings or triangles.

Dissolve the starch in half of the pineapple syrup.

In a saucepan, mix ketchup, soy sauce, half of the pineapple syrup, rice vinegar, and sugar. Heat over low heat until boiling, then simmer until the sugar dissolves.

Add the pineapple and cook for 1 minute.

Then, slowly pour in the diluted starch in a thin stream and cook the sauce for about 30-40 seconds. It will begin to thicken immediately but should remain pourable.
