Poppy Seed Cake
Description
Semolina cake with poppy seeds made at home is a perfect baking option for both children and adults. For extra aroma and richer flavor, I recommend adding citrus (orange or lemon). If you have dried fruits on hand, feel free to add them as well. Soft and fluffy, this cake is a wonderful accompaniment to your morning coffee. Serve it warm or chilled. Perfect with tea.

Step 1

1. Pour the grain into a deep bowl, pour kefir over it. Mix everything thoroughly, then add the poppy seeds. Let it sit for 25–30 minutes so the semolina can swell properly.

Step 3

3. Combine the flour with salt and baking powder. Sift into a deep bowl.

Step 5

5. Add the swollen grain to the same pan and mix everything thoroughly.

Step 6

6. Add the flour and pour in the oil. Knead until you get a smooth, lump-free dough.

7. Prepare a heat-resistant baking dish. Grease it with butter or line with parchment paper. Place the dough in the dish and smooth it out. Put the dish with the dough into a preheated oven at 190 degrees.

Step 8

8. Here is a simple and easy way to make a poppy seed cake. You can check it for doneness with a toothpick in about half an hour.

Step 9

9. Before serving, you can dust it with powdered sugar.
