Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare all the ingredients from the list. Choose potatoes with a high starch content, as they will cook faster. Use spices to your taste. Any cheese that melts well will work.
- 2
Step 2

Rinse the meat and pat it dry. Cut into 1 cm thick slices. It's easier to slice the meat when it's slightly frozen.
- 3
Step 3

Lightly pound each slice with a kitchen mallet, and to avoid splattering, place the meat in a plastic bag or cover it with plastic wrap.
- 4
Step 4

Sprinkle each piece with salt and spices on both sides.
- 5
Step 5

Slice the tomatoes into rounds.
- 6
Step 6

Grate the cheese on a fine grater, and slice the onion as you prefer.
- 7
Step 7

Mix sour cream and mayonnaise. Stir. The sauce is ready. If desired, you can add crushed garlic and fresh herbs.
- 8
Step 8

Slice the potatoes into thin rounds; the thinner, the better. Place the potatoes in water so they don't darken.
- 9
Step 9

Grease a deep heatproof dish with vegetable oil. Place the potatoes in one to two layers.
- 10
Step 10

Brush the potatoes with the sauce. Sprinkle with onions. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- 11
Step 11

Next, evenly place the pounded meat.
- 12
Step 12

Place the remaining onion on the meat.
- 13
Step 13

Place the remaining potatoes on the onion.
- 14
Step 14

Brush the potatoes with sauce, season with salt and pepper to taste. Top with sliced tomatoes.
- 15
Step 15

Brush the tomatoes with the remaining sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle the top with grated cheese. Place the dish in an oven preheated to approximately 190–200 degrees Celsius. After about 30 minutes, cover the top of the dish with a sheet of aluminum foil and continue baking for another 30 minutes. Why use foil? This is necessary to prevent the cheese from burning. There's no need to seal the dish tightly with foil—just place it on top so that excess moisture can evaporate from the edges. Adjust the exact baking time and temperature according to your oven and the doneness of the potatoes.
- 16
Step 16

Then remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes. French-style potatoes with tomatoes are ready. Remove the dish from the oven and serve hot.
- 17
Step 17

Serve at the table.
