Description

The dish is prepared without unnecessary complications. Gnocchi are also known as Italian dumplings. Their classic version usually includes spinach, herbs, flour, egg, cheese, or ricotta. In the old days, this dish was considered peasant food due to its simple ingredients. Italians may serve gnocchi as a first course, especially when accompanied by a tomato or cheese sauce. So, take a look—your dish is ready to be served.

Instructions

    Step 1

    1. Dill is not included in the classic recipe for this dish, but I add it—it's much tastier this way. Spinach and dill impart not only a beautiful color but also wonderful flavor notes. You will need root celery.

    2. Peel a small piece of celery, then cut it into small cubes and boil until cooked. It usually takes about 5-8 minutes to cook completely.

    3. Boil the potatoes in their skins, let them cool, and then peel them.

    4. Now pass the potatoes and celery through a sieve. Once I tried blending them with a blender, and it also turned out pretty well.

    5. Add the egg, salt, spices, dill, and spinach. I used frozen spinach and dill, but their flavor remained unchanged.

    Step 6

    6. Add the flour and mix until smooth. Roll into a "sausage" shape and cut into small pieces (like lazy dumplings). Now place a pot of water on the stove and bring to a boil. Salt the water and add the gnocchi.

    7. As soon as the gnocchi float to the surface, immediately remove them from the water, otherwise you'll end up with mashed potatoes. Before serving, you can sprinkle the gnocchi with green onions or fresh herbs.
