Instructions

Step 1

Peel the onion and slice it into half-rings. Scrape the celery root and cut it into a few large pieces. Pour a little vegetable oil into a frying pan and heat it over the stove. Add the sauerkraut, along with the onion and celery. Simmer covered for twenty minutes.

Step 2

Wash the potatoes and boil them in their skins. This way, all the vitamins will be preserved, and the potatoes won't fall apart during cooking. To make the potatoes cook faster, use smaller-sized ones.

Step 3

Wash and clean the piece of pork, then cut it into squares about two centimeters wide. Salt and pepper the meat. Fry it over high heat for ten minutes in a separate frying pan with added vegetable oil.

Step 4

Now you need to mix the vegetables and prepared meat in a separate container. Then add any spices to taste, as well as bay leaf. Add tomato paste or tomato juice, and mix all the ingredients. Place over heat and simmer for forty minutes. A few minutes before the dish is ready, add chopped fresh herbs to the pot.

Step 5

Peel the boiled potatoes, then heat milk or cream in a saucepan—if you want a smoother mash. Melt butter in the hot potatoes, mash them to a uniform consistency, gradually adding the milk.

Step 6

Serve the dish with vegetables. The mashed potatoes must be hot, but the meat does not have to be.
