
Cabbage stewed with onions
Description
The recipe won't take much time. Stewed cabbage is a traditional dish of all Slavic peoples. In Russia, the cabbage remains white. In Ukraine, they prefer it bright red from tomato juice. Try this fabulous grandmother's recipe. Serve hot.

1. Gather all the ingredients. Clean the cabbage and knead it. Peel the onion and carrots. Chop the cabbage not too finely. Slice the onion into half-rings.

2. To make subsequent mixing easier, layer the ingredients in the frying pan. Lightly salt each layer and drizzle slightly with tomato paste.

3. Place the skillet over medium heat, pour vegetable oil on top, cover the cabbage with a lid, and fry for about 10 minutes. Now add spices, thoroughly mix the cabbage, taste for salt and add more if needed. The mixture should be uniformly red! Reduce the heat to low and simmer the cabbage until fully cooked for another 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Make sure the dish doesn't burn!

4. As soon as the cabbage becomes tender (but not falling apart!) and all the moisture has evaporated, the dish is ready. It goes very well with buckwheat porridge during Lent. The cabbage will make an excellent side dish for meat or cutlets.
