1. First, prepare the marinade: mix water, salt, sugar, apple cider vinegar, vegetable oil, and hot pepper. Don’t overdo the hot pepper—it’s very spicy! Put the mixture on the heat and bring to a boil. Then turn off the stove and let the marinade cool slightly slightly.

4. Cut the cabbage into fairly large pieces.

5. Place the carrots, beets, garlic, and cabbage in a bowl or deep dish. Pour the warm marinade over the vegetables and mix.
