Canapés with Herring and Black Bread on Skewers
Description
Thanks to the mustard and apple, the canapés turn out with a very tangy flavor. If you want spicier canapés, use hot mustard. It's best to use a sweet-and-sour apple—it will perfectly complement the flavor of the canapés. And be sure to check the herring fillet for even the tiniest bones.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare all the necessary ingredients for making herring and black bread canapés on skewers.
- 2
Step 2

Cut the crusts off the rye bread and cut it into equal pieces.
- 3
Step 3

Spread mustard on each piece of bread.
- 4
Step 4

Finely chop the dill and mix it with soft butter. Using a piping bag, pipe strips of butter onto the mustard. Or spread the mixture over the mustard layer in a thin layer.
- 5
Step 5

Cut the apple in half, remove the core, and slice into thin wedges. Place the apples on top of the canapés and press lightly into the butter.
- 6
Step 6

Cut the herring fillets into pieces to match the number of bread slices; I ended up with 12 pieces. Place the herring on top of the apple.
- 7
Step 7

Secure each canapé with a toothpick through the center, piercing all layers. Transfer the canapés to a serving platter, garnish with herbs, and serve.
- 8
Step 8

Serve immediately or slightly chilled.
