Pork stew with turnips and potatoes
Description
The dish is prepared without unnecessary complications. Place the pork in a shallow dish and pour vinegar over it, then mix. Let it marinate for 15 minutes or up to 2 hours. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees. Heat vegetable oil in a pot. Season the pork with salt and pepper, then place it in the pot. Sear until browned on all sides. Transfer the pork to a plate and set aside. Add onion, garlic, cocoa powder, cumin, cinnamon, cardamom, and chili to the pot. Cook until the onion softens and the spices become aromatic. Add a little water if the mixture starts sticking to the bottom of the pot. Return the pork to the pot and mix. Add 1 cup of water, sweet potatoes, and turnips, but do not stir further. Cover with a lid and place in the oven. Bake until the vegetables are tender and the pork is fully cooked, about 1 1/2 hours. Serve the stew hot with tomatoes, cilantro, and rice, if desired. The finished dish is ready to be served.
