Fried smelt with a side dish
Description
The dish is prepared without unnecessary complications. You can cook smelt either in a pan or in the oven, whichever you prefer. Smelt cooked in the oven will be less greasy. It goes well with any creamy sauces, as well as with the classic and beloved zucchini caviar. Smelt is a rich source of vitamins, like any other fish from the salmon family: B vitamins, potassium, sodium, and Omega-3 fatty acids. This fish is easily digestible and quick to prepare. The ready dish can be served at the table.

Step 1

1. This small, well-known fish from the smelt family is an excellent alternative to any sea fish. Despite its price, smelt is no less delicious than other types of sea fish. It contains 23% protein, fries quickly, and is very easily digestible. First, we need to wash it and let the excess liquid drain.

Step 2

2. Coat each fish on all sides with flour. Meanwhile, pour vegetable oil into a frying pan and heat the pan.

Step 3

3. Immediately fry on one side, then on the other. Determine the doneness level yourself.

Step 4

4. The fish must be fried in hot vegetable oil, otherwise it will fall apart. Another important point: salt it only when you flip it to the other side.

Step 5

5. Flip and transfer the fish onto a plate using two forks—it's convenient, time-tested, and proven by experience. While the fish was frying, you can prepare any side dish. Today we'll have mashed potatoes.

6. Together with potatoes, it made a wonderful culinary pair! Smelt goes well with wheat porridge and any pasta dishes. It also pairs nicely with zucchini caviar.
