Description
The recipe won't take much time. The special feature of this recipe is that rum is added to the dough, which can be replaced with regular vodka. The khvorost turns out very tender, extraordinarily aromatic and tasty. When you knead the dough, keep in mind that the flour varies and the eggs differ in size as well. Therefore, you may need a little more or a little less alcohol than the amount specified in the ingredients. Serve warm or chilled. Perfect with tea.

Put flour, sugar, and salt into a bowl.

Add orange or lemon zest. You can use either, or both.

Add the egg, soft butter, and baking powder.

Mix all the ingredients by hand until they reach a crumbly consistency.

Gradually pour in the rum, knead a soft, elastic dough that does not stick to the hands. Then cover it with plastic wrap and place it in the cold for two hours.

Roll out the dough to a thickness of 2–3 mm on a flour‑dusted table. Cut into squares or rectangles. Make a slit in the center.

Heat the oil well in a pot and place the dough squares.

Fry the fritters on both sides until golden brown and place them on a plate lined with paper towel to remove excess fat.

When the fried dough has cooled, dust it with powdered sugar and serve it at the table.
