Pears in wine
Description
This recipe won't take much time. I first tried pears in wine at a Belgian restaurant. They served them alongside a meat dish as a side. It was delicious, but my taste buds weren't quite used to the sweet and savory combination, so I decided to try making pears in wine at home and serve them as a dessert instead. Since Valentine's Day was coming up, we decided to make it a special occasion. And you know what? The result was absolutely amazing! The pears in wine turned out to be a real delicacy—exquisitely tasty—despite requiring no special ingredients. You can use inexpensive wine; it still works perfectly. Moreover, don't throw away the wine after cooking the pears—you can turn it into a sauce. Once, we were too lazy to make a sauce, so we simply added some mulled wine spices, simmered it a bit longer, and drank it as hot wine. I must say, it was very tasty, though slightly thicker in consistency. Anyway, I highly recommend trying pears in wine! Good luck, and serve chilled.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Pour enough wine into a saucepan to completely cover the pears. Place over medium heat.
- 2
Step 2

Add the spices - sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla.
- 3
Step 3

Bring to a boil and let it simmer briefly until the wine mixture thickens slightly.
- 4
Step 4

Meanwhile, peel the pears. Do not cut off the stems.
- 5
Step 5

Reduce the heat to the lowest setting and carefully place the pears into the wine. The heat must be kept at the minimum. Cook the pears in wine for 2 hours, although this depends greatly on the wine's temperature. Therefore, check after one hour to see how soft the pears have become. The cooked pears should be tender, but not falling apart.
- 6
Step 6

Take the pears out of the wine, carefully cut off the bottom part.
- 7
Step 7

This is done so that pears can be beautifully served, standing on the flat cut surface.
- 8
Step 8

The remaining wine can be used to make a sauce—simply continue cooking the wine until it thickens.
- 9
Step 9

Pears in wine can be served as a dessert (with berries, chocolate, or ice cream), or as a side dish or appetizer. Enjoy!
