Grissini
Description
The baked goods come together simply and quickly. If you have ever been to Italy or dined at a good Italian restaurant, you surely know that Italians often put grissini on the table before the main courses—crunchy sticks made from yeast dough. Meals often end with them too: they are brought with cheese and wine at the end of the meal. In many cocktail bars, grissini are served as an all-purpose snack with any kind of alcoholic cocktail. In short, grissini are such a versatile treat that it is worth mastering the recipe for these sticks for everyone. Luckily, the grissini recipe is very simple and straightforward :) Serve cooled or slightly warm.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Dissolve the salt and sugar in warm water.
- 2
Step 2

Add the yeast to the same water and stir until dissolved.
- 3
Step 3

First add half the flour, oregano, and olive oil. Mix well, then fold in the remaining half of the flour and knead the dough.
- 4
Step 4

Knead the dough on a surface dusted with flour until it no longer sticks to your hands. Then leave the dough in a warm place and let it rise. That will take another 20–30 minutes.
- 5
Step 5

When the dough has risen, it needs to be kneaded well and left for another 10 minutes or so. Then we divide the dough into 4 parts, each of which we divide into another 5 parts. From each one we roll out an oblong stick in the shape of grissini (see photo). Determine the length yourself (some people like them longer, some shorter), however keep in mind that the dough will rise further, and the sticks will increase slightly.

Step 6

Bake the grissini for about 20–25 minutes at 240°C. Then take them out of the oven, let cool — and they’re ready to serve. :)
