Description

According to the rules, this dish is baked without cheese, and the cheese is served separately with the hot, ready dish. The recipe uses the dairy product "cream cheese," which can be substituted with regular heavy cream or homemade cream cheese made from 30% cream and buttermilk.

    Peel the potatoes, rinse them, and slice thinly into rounds using a special grater, no thicker than 3 mm.

    Place the potatoes in a deep saucepan, pour in the milk, 300 ml of sour cream, add butter, minced garlic, nutmeg, black pepper, and salt.

    Bring the contents of the pan to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium and cook for another 8 minutes. Carefully stir the potatoes with a spatula to prevent them from sticking to the bottom of the pan. All the potatoes should be covered with cream.

    Place the potatoes in a baking dish, smooth the surface, and let stand for 10–15 minutes so the potatoes cool slightly and absorb all the flavors.

    Place the remaining 200 ml of sour cream on the potatoes and spread it evenly in a layer.

    Bake the potatoes for 15 minutes in a preheated oven at 180 degrees. Check for doneness with a thin sharp knife.
