Beef steak with apples and onions

Description

In a large skillet without a handle, coated with nonstick cooking spray, sear the fillet on all sides. Transfer to a pot and place over low heat. Add water, stirring, to cover the roast. Season with salt, add soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Top with apples and onions. Cover and simmer over low heat for 5–6 hours, or until the meat is tender. Remove the meat and onions, and let stand for 15 minutes before slicing. Strain the cooking liquid into a saucepan, discarding the apples. Bring the liquid to a boil and cook until reduced to 2 cups, about 15 minutes. Mix cornstarch and cold water together until smooth; add browning sauce. Stir into the boiling liquid. Bring to a boil, then cook, stirring, for 2 minutes or until thickened. Serve sauce with the beef and onions.
