Beef Shabu-shabu
Description
The appetizer is quick and easy to make. To prepare a true Japanese appetizer—beef shabu-shabu—you will need quite a few different ingredients. But believe me, it’s worth it. The dish turns out delightful; I personally have never tried anything like it before. I recommend making it
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Slice the slightly frozen beef into very thin slices. A sharp knife works best.
- 2
Step 2

Over low heat, bring the water and cognac to a boil. Dip a few slices of beef into the barely simmering liquid for about 5 seconds. Transfer the beef to cheesecloth. To make the sauce, mix soy sauce with chili sauce, olive oil, and sesame oil. Then add chili pepper, rice vinegar, and wasabi. Mix thoroughly.

Step 4

Wash the lettuce leaves and pat them dry. Arrange them on a wide platter. Next, arrange the beef, alternating it with pepper and greens. Generously drizzle the appetizer with sauce and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
