Beef with broccoli

Description

The recipe won't take much time. It's probably one of the easiest Asian-style dishes you can effortlessly prepare at home. The cooking method is very simple, although you might need to search for a few ingredients (still, they're available in any large supermarket). This beef with broccoli recipe will help you make a dish far more delicious than what you'd get at a Chinese restaurant. Highly recommended. It's a delightful dish you'll want to cook again and again. Serve hot.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Step 1

The main ingredients are beef and broccoli. Another ingredient you definitely can't do without is soy sauce (it's readily available and inexpensive). As for everything else, you can substitute with something similar—no problem.

  2. 2

    Step 2

    Step 2

So, let's prepare the ingredients. Peel the garlic and ginger and finely chop them. I recommend putting the beef tenderloin in the freezer for half an hour before cooking—it will be much easier to slice. You can also start cooking the rice for the side dish in advance, since the dish itself is prepared quite quickly.

  3. 3

    Step 3

    Step 3

Wash the broccoli and separate it into florets, then cut each floret into 3-4 pieces. The pieces should be roughly the same size as the beef pieces. I prefer smaller cuts—they cook faster and are more convenient to eat.

  4. 4

    Step 4

    Step 4

Cut the beef into thin, long slices, similar to how it's sliced for beef stroganoff. For clarity, refer to the photo to see the desired piece size. However, you can also cut it differently. The main thing is to cut across the grain to keep the meat juicy.

  5. 5

    Step 5

    Step 5

In a bowl, mix the sliced beef, cornstarch, and half of the vegetable oil. Stir well.

  6. 6

    Step 6

    Step 6

In a wok, heat about half of the remaining oil. Place the broccoli into the hot oil.

  7. 7

    Step 7

    Step 7

Sauté the broccoli for a couple of minutes over very high heat, stirring constantly. Then remove the vegetables from the hot wok.

  8. 8

    Step 8

    Step 8

Heat the remaining oil in a wok. Add the beef to the hot oil. Sear over very high heat, stirring constantly to prevent burning.

  9. 9

    Step 9

    Step 9

When the beef is slightly browned and changes color, add ginger and garlic to the wok. Mix well.

  10. 10

    Step 10

    Step 10

You'll notice that there is now more oil in the wok than you added last time. This is because the beef will begin to release the oil it absorbed at the beginning of cooking (remember, we added oil to the beef). So, about a minute after adding the garlic and ginger, your kitchen will fill with their distinctive aromas. As soon as this happens, drain the excess oil from the wok and pour in the soy sauce and rice wine instead. Stir well and continue stir-frying.

  11. 11

    Step 11

    Step 11

When the liquid has slightly reduced, add the oyster sauce. If you don't have any, don't worry—you can skip this step. But with it, of course, the flavor will be much richer.

  12. 12

    Step 12

    Step 12

Stir and add broccoli to the wok. Mix again and heat everything together for a short time (less than a minute). That's it—remove the dish from the heat and serve immediately with rice (although you can choose any other side dish).
