Description

The recipe for country-style beef can be conditionally divided into two stages: preparing the meat itself and making scones (traditional English buns). So don't be intimidated by the long list of ingredients—actually, everything is quite simple. You just need to get started, and I'm sure you'll manage effortlessly from there. As for the taste of the dish, let me say this: it's incredibly tender meat with a fragrant, spicy sweet-and-sour sauce (remember, the key ingredient in the sauce is plum jam), and the buns are absolutely delicious! I've become so fond of them that I now prepare them as a standalone dish. Now I'll tell you how to make country-style beef at home, and believe me, this dish will be the highlight of any table.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Step 1

First, cut the beef into cubes about 2 centimeters in size.

  2. 2

    Step 2

    Step 2

Next, slice the onion into quarter-rings and finely chop the garlic.

  3. 3

    Step 3

    Step 3

Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan. Coat the pieces of meat in flour and fry in the pan until golden brown.

  4. 4

    Step 4

    Step 4

Transfer the beef to a separate dish, and in the skillet begin sautéing the onion with garlic. Cook until the onion becomes translucent.

  5. 5

    Step 5

    Step 5

Transfer the onion and garlic to the meat, add the jam, vinegar, chili sauce, and soy sauce, sprinkle with dried herbs, and mix everything thoroughly.

  6. 6

    Step 6

    Step 6

Now transfer the meat in sauce to a baking dish. Then pour in broth or water. Cover with a lid and place the meat in a preheated oven at 220 degrees. When the liquid in the dish begins to boil, reduce the heat to 180–200 degrees and cook for about 1.5 hours.

  7. 7

    Step 7

    Step 7

Now we can start preparing the buns. For this, sift the flour into a deep bowl, add the baking powder, salt, and sugar, and thoroughly mix the dry ingredients. Now add the butter and rub it in with your hands until it resembles crumbs.

  8. 8

    Step 8

    Step 8

Then add the chopped herbs, mix well, and gradually pour in the milk until you get a soft, crumbly dough.

  9. 9

    Step 9

    Step 9

Now shape the dough into a ball and roll it out on a smooth surface into a slab about 3 centimeters thick (do not knead the dough).

  10. 10

    Step 10

    Step 10

Using a glass, we make these wonderful buns.

  11. 11

    Step 11

    Step 11

Place them on the meat; don't worry, they won't sink because by that time the sauce will have become thick enough. Bake for half an hour with the lid open at a temperature of 200 degrees.

  12. 12

    Step 12

    Step 12

And here, actually, is the final result of my efforts. I don't serve any side dish with the meat, as it's quite filling on its own, and the buns make it even more satisfying. So, we simply split the hot bun in half, spread it with butter, and start eating. !!
