Pea porridge in a pot
Description
The recipe won't take much time. It's no secret that food cooked in pots turns out especially delicious, but porridge prepared this way is truly extraordinary—fluffy, aromatic, and perfectly tender! Pea porridge is no exception—once you've tried it baked in pots, you'll realize it's the best method. Vegetarians can omit meat products—the porridge will still be very tasty—but I personally prefer pea porridge with a rich, meaty aroma. Therefore, this recipe for pea porridge in pots includes pork belly, ham, or bacon—raw cuts work, but smoked ones yield even better results. Serve hot.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

5-6 hours before starting to cook (if you're cooking in the morning, you can do this the night before), thoroughly rinse the peas under running water, rubbing them with your hands.
- 2
Step 2

Cover with clean cold water so that the water level is about 3-4 cm above the peas, cover with a lid, and leave at room temperature.
- 3
Step 3

After the specified time, the peas should have absorbed the water and swollen, doubling in size.
- 4
Step 4

Rinse the peas thoroughly under running water once again and set aside. Cut the pork belly, fat, or bacon into small pieces.
- 5
Step 5

Chop the onion.
- 6
Step 6

Fry the bacon on a well-heated pan until golden brown. Add the onion and sauté until it becomes golden.
- 7
Step 7

Place peas into pots. Add meat with onion, one teaspoon of salt and a bay leaf. Season with pepper.
- 8
Step 8

Pour hot water almost to the rim of the pot.
- 9
Step 9

Cover the pots with lids or foil and place them in a preheated oven at 160°C for 1.5–2 hours. During this time, the peas should soften completely and become infused with the flavors of the spices and meat... This isn't just porridge—it's pure magic! :)
