Gypsy-style stuffed cabbage rolls
Description
Making gypsy-style cabbage rolls is no more difficult than making regular cabbage rolls, and they turn out even more delicious thanks to the addition of sautéed vegetables with tomato to the filling, resulting in a richer flavor. Check out the step-by-step recipe and enjoy cooking!
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the ingredients.
- 2
Step 2

Separate the cabbage leaves using any method. For example, use a sharp knife to make deep cuts around the core and carefully remove the leaves one by one.
- 3
Step 3

Place the leaves in a covered microwave-safe container and put in the microwave for 5 minutes.
- 4
Step 4

The cabbage leaves became soft and pliable after the microwave.
- 5
Step 5

Boil the rice in salted water, slightly undercooking it, then drain it in a colander.
- 6
Step 6

Add rice to the minced meat, salt, pepper, mix well.
- 7
Step 7

Sauté the onion, carrot, and tomato.
- 8
Step 8

Divide the sautéed mixture in half.
- 9
Step 9

Place half of the sautéed mixture into the minced meat and mix well.
- 10
Step 10

Place the filling onto the cabbage leaf, roll it into a triangular pouch by folding the top of the cabbage leaf inward.
- 11
Step 11

Place the cabbage roll blanks into the pot, and add half of the remaining sautéed mixture on top.
- 12
Step 12

Place the second layer of cabbage rolls and the remaining sautéed vegetables on top. Pour boiling water into the frying pan to collect the leftover sautéed vegetables, then pour this liquid over the cabbage rolls. Simmer the cabbage rolls over low heat for 40–45 minutes. If the cabbage is autumn (tougher), you can simmer it a bit longer.
- 13
Step 13

At the end of simmering, add chopped herbs and bay leaf to the cabbage rolls.
- 14
Step 14

Serve gypsy-style cabbage rolls with sour cream or mayonnaise. You can prepare mashed potatoes as a side dish. The cabbage rolls turned out very delicious; I highly recommend trying to cook them!
