Classic stuffed cabbage rolls
Description
The recipe won't take much time. Cabbage rolls can be prepared in various ways. The only common thing in all recipes is that the filling is wrapped in a cabbage leaf. Everything else may differ, starting from the filling itself (it can be vegetable, mushroom, meat, etc.) to the cooking method (simmering in a pot or cauldron, baking in the oven, etc.). I particularly like the version with meat filling combined with rice and sautéed vegetables. These are the cabbage rolls I remember from childhood, and I love them very much. I suggest you try making classic cabbage rolls according to my recipe. Serve hot.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare all the necessary ingredients. Pay special attention to the cabbage selection—it should not be too firm and should be soft enough so that the leaves separate easily.
- 2
Step 2

Grate the carrot on a coarse grater.
- 3
Step 3

Finely chop the onion as finely as possible.
- 4
Step 4

Set aside one-third of the onion for the tomato sauce, and sauté the rest with the carrot in sunflower oil until soft.
- 5
Step 5

Boil the rice until half-cooked. To do this, bring 150 ml of water to a boil, add the rice, and cook until the liquid has evaporated.
- 6
Step 6

Mix the pre-prepared minced meat with rice, and add the required amount of salt and pepper.
- 7
Step 7

Add the sautéed onion and carrots. Mix everything thoroughly until smooth.
- 8
Step 8

Remove the core from the cabbage. You can discard it right away, we won't need it.
- 9
Step 9

Place the cabbage into a pot of boiling water, let it simmer for a while, then remove the leaves one by one using two forks.
- 10
Step 10

Cut the cabbage leaves into strips 5-6 cm wide, and place the filling on them.
- 11
Step 11

Wrap the filling in the cabbage leaf. The first cabbage roll is ready! Do the same with the rest.
- 12
Step 12

Prepare the tomato sauce. Sauté the reserved onion in sunflower oil, then add tomato juice and boil for about 5 minutes.
- 13
Step 13

Place the cabbage rolls into a pot of suitable size, first lining the bottom with a cabbage leaf. Also place a few cabbage leaves on top. Pour water over the cabbage rolls until they are completely covered, and cook for 30 minutes. Then add the tomato sauce and continue cooking for another 20–30 minutes.

Step 14

The stuffed cabbage rolls are ready! Enjoy your meal!
