Dutch bread
Description
Delicious baked goods for the whole family. I doubt I’d be mistaken if I said that bread plays a role in the lives of all peoples on earth. Nothing else reveals their tastes and traditions quite like it does. Today I want to share a recipe for tasty Dutch sunflower-seed bread. It’s straightforward and calls for neither much time nor special skills. Follow the step-by-step recipe and take a culinary journey without leaving home. Serve cool or lightly warm.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the ingredients.
- 2
Step 2

Pour water into a bowl, add sugar and dry yeast, stir, and let stand for 15 minutes.
- 3
Step 3

Sift the flour into a mixing bowl, add salt and sunflower seeds, and mix together.
- 4
Step 4

Make a well in the flour and pour in the yeast mixture.
- 5
Step 5

Knead the dough, shape it into a ball, and place it in a bowl. Cover with a lid and leave to rise for 1.5 hours. If the dough is too dense, you can add a little flour.
- 6
Step 6

Lightly dust the tabletop working surface with flour, knead the dough again, then roll it into a ball once more.
- 7
Step 7

Lightly dust the bottom of the bowl with flour, place the dough with the “seam” facing up, and leave to proof for another 1 hour.
- 8
Step 8

While the dough is proofing, prepare the bread baking pan; it should have a lid. Preheat the oven to 230 degrees and place the baking pan inside for 45 minutes.
- 9
Step 9

Place the bread seam-side down in the hot baking vessel and cover with the lid. Preheat the oven to 250 °C and bake at that temperature for 10 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 200 °C and bake for another 35–40 minutes. Take precautions when working with hot cookware.
- 10
Step 10

The bread should have a golden-brown crust and attractive cracks.
- 11
Step 11

Cool the bread completely on a wire rack.
- 12
Step 12

Now the Dutch bread is ready to serve.
- 13
Step 13

As always, I’ll show a cross-section of the bread: it turned out quite dense, with a fine, tight crumb, very aromatic, with appetizing bits of sunflower seeds throughout.
