Glazed Chocolate Cake
Description
Preheat the oven to 160 degrees. Grease a baking pan and dust the bottom and sides with cocoa powder. Shake off the excess. Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Using an electric mixer, beat butter and 1 cup of sugar at high speed. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla. Reduce speed to low. Add the flour mixture in two batches, alternating with sour cream. Transfer the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely. Place the cake on a baking sheet. Pour the frosting over the cake, carefully smoothing it with a spatula or table knife to cover evenly. Let stand for about 30 minutes. If desired, beat cream with the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar. Serve the cake with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
