Gattò
Description
The recipe will not take much time. It is a wonderful choice for a family lunch or dinner. For the potatoes, floury varieties work best—the casserole will turn out more tender. Instead of ham, you can use sausage or other sausage and meat products. Serve warm or chilled. Perfect with tea.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare all the ingredients you need to make the gatto. Wash the herbs and let them dry.
- 2
Step 2

Wash the potatoes and boil them in their jackets until tender. Remove from the heat, pour cold water over them, and drain it.
- 3
Step 3

Peel the potatoes, mash them, add 40 grams of butter, and mix.
- 4
Step 4

Dice the ham into small cubes and add it to the mashed potatoes.
- 5
Step 5

Finely chop the greens and mozzarella and add them to the purée. Season everything with salt, crack in the egg, add the yolk, and mix.
- 6
Step 6

Grease a baking dish with vegetable oil and sprinkle with breadcrumbs. Spread half of the potato mixture and level it, forming raised edges. Cut hard cheese into slices and arrange on the potato.
- 7
Step 7

Spread the remaining mashed potatoes on top, level them out, sprinkle with the remaining breadcrumbs, and slice the remaining butter.
- 8
Step 8

Put the dish with the gatto into a hot oven and bake at 180°C for 45 minutes, until golden brown. When the time is up, take the gatto out of the oven, let it cool until warm, and serve.
- 9
Step 9

Remove from the oven and serve warm or cooled.
