Gatlakly
Description
Delicious baked treat for the whole family. Gatlaqty are Kazakh unleavened flatbreads made from unleavened dough with the addition of sesame or millet oil. These flatbreads are very easy to prepare. You'll be satisfied with the result. Serve warm or cooled. Perfect with tea.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

To make the flatbreads, take flour, salt, vegetable oil (sesame or buckwheat), butter, and water.
- 2
Step 2

Sift the flour into a bowl. Add a teaspoon of salt and mix well.
- 3
Step 3

Pour in 100 ml of water and add 2 tablespoons of sesame or buckwheat oil. You can use regular olive oil instead. Sesame or buckwheat oil has a pronounced flavor and aroma, while olive oil is rather neutral. The flatbread will still be tasty, but not as aromatic as when using sesame or buckwheat oil in the dough.
- 4
Step 4

I added the oil in batches, not all at once. This helps to determine the required amount and, if necessary, add more oil or water.
- 5
Step 5

Gather the dough into a ball. Roll it out well. Place in a bowl and let rest for 20 minutes.
- 6
Step 6

Divide the dough into 6 parts. Roll each part into a sausage shape, then roll it out into a thin oval. Melt the butter and, using a brush, spread the butter on one side of the dough.
- 7
Step 7

Roll it tightly into a roll.
- 8
Step 8

Roll the roll into a snail shape.
- 9
Step 9

Roll out with a rolling pin. Use the tines of a fork to shape (create a pattern) on the edges of the flatbread. This will leave an imprint on the dough.
- 10
Step 10

On a skillet, fry the gatlakts in oil on both sides until golden brown. Sprinkle with herbs or chopped onions.
- 11
Step 11

Serve and enjoy.
