Rooster of Gaul
Description
The dish is prepared without unnecessary complications. Thanks to the marinade made from dry red wine, tough meat becomes tender and very tasty. Instead of salt, I add soy sauce. Details: The finished dish can be served at the table.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Season the meat with pepper to taste. Mix red wine (1 cup) with soy sauce, marinate the meat for several hours—conveniently overnight.
- 2
Step 2

Then prepare the remaining ingredients. Wash and peel the vegetables.
- 3
Step 3

Heat oil in a skillet. Over high heat, sear the marinated meat on all sides until a golden crust forms.
- 4
Step 4

Make a cross-shaped cut on the tomatoes, pour boiling water over them and let sit for 2 minutes. Peel off the skin and cut into large cubes.
- 5
Step 5

Dice the onion and slice the carrots into thin half-moons. Place half of the chopped vegetables into a heavy-bottomed pot.
- 6
Step 6

Place the fried meat and remaining vegetables on top. Pour in the red wine (1 cup). Set over medium heat and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to the lowest setting and cook until the meat is tender and the sauce has thickened, about 1 hour.
- 7
Step 7

Serve coq au vin with your favorite side dish.
