Fruit jelly with starch
Description
You can prepare the kissel in the evening or early in the morning to have a fragrant and delicious drink ready throughout the day. If desired, you can replace the sugar with honey, syrup, or topping. Kissel can be stored for up to two days when kept refrigerated.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the listed ingredients. You can use any fruits, but not very sour ones.
- 2
Step 2

Peel the tangerines, removing both the skin and the white layer underneath. Separate the fruit into segments and place them in a saucepan, cauldron, or pot.
- 3
Step 3

Add granulated sugar or a sugar substitute. If you are preparing the drink with honey, the honey should be mixed into the cooled kisel at 35 degrees.
- 4
Step 4

Pour in 650 ml of water and place the container on the stove. Boil the compote for 12–15 minutes until the tangerine segments become soft. Reserve the remaining 50 ml of water for later use.
- 5
Step 5

As soon as the tangerine compote is cooked, dissolve the potato starch in 50 ml of cold water. It must be cold water; otherwise, the starch will form lumps in hot or warm water, and you'll end up with a lumpy jelly! You can also use cornstarch if potato starch is not available.
- 6
Step 6

Pour the water with starch into the compote and heat it almost to boiling, but do not let the drink boil, otherwise it will not thicken. Turn off the heat and let the kissel cool to the desired temperature.
- 7
Step 7

Pour the drink into cups or glasses and serve.
