Turkey meatballs

Description

The dish is prepared without unnecessary complications. Serve the meatballs hot, and store any leftovers in the refrigerator after they have cooled down. You can substitute turkey mince with chicken, pork, or beef. The sauce can be made with frozen vegetables, or use fresh ones if they are in season. The dish is ready to be served.

    1. Peel the onion and garlic, then dice the vegetables into small cubes. Heat a pot with ¼ cup of olive oil, add half of the onion and 2 cloves of garlic, and sauté for a couple of minutes.

    2. Finely chop the carrots and celery, add the vegetables to the pot with the onion and garlic. Season with salt and pepper, sauté for another 3-5 minutes.

    3. Finely chop the basil, add it to the pot, along with the bay leaf and diced tomatoes. Partially cover with a lid and simmer over low heat for about 1 hour.

    4. Meanwhile, finely chop the parsley and grate the cheese. Mix the minced meat with parsley, cheese, breadcrumbs, remaining onion and garlic, add ketchup, egg, salt and pepper to taste.

    5. Heat olive oil over medium heat, shape small meatballs and cook in batches on all sides until golden brown.

    6. Transfer the meatballs to a pot or a bowl and fry the remaining ones.

    7. Place the fried meatballs into the sauce you are preparing on the stove. Gently stir and simmer for another 10-15 minutes.
