French Yogurt Cake
Description
Perfect with tea and coffee. Quick, simple, and very delicious—that's what this French yogurt cake is all about, ready in just one hour. In taste and appearance, it turns out similar to a pound cake made with sour milk or kefir. If desired, the French yogurt cake can be decorated with fruits, berries, cream, or jam. Some people cut the finished cake in half and soak it with sweetened condensed milk or cream. I always spread it with whipped cream and top it with fresh berries. Serve warm or chilled. Ideal with tea.

Step 1

1. My niece makes this French yogurt cake very quickly, and she's only 12 years old. In France, children are taught to cook almost as soon as they start sitting on their own. So, for this dessert, we'll need plain yogurt, egg, flour, sugar, lemon zest, and baking soda. Mix the sugar with the lemon zest.

Step 2

2. Pour the yogurt into a container, add the baking soda, let it sit for about 2 minutes, stirring the mixture. Add a little vegetable oil (a couple of tablespoons), egg (you can use several for a fluffier cake) and sugar. Begin mixing the dough.

Step 3

3. You can mix the batter with a whisk or a regular spoon. Add the flour last. The batter should have the consistency of thick sour cream. Grease the baking pan with oil and pour in the batter.
