
French Toast with Apples and Whiskey
Description
Suitable for both holidays and everyday meals. Fragrant crispy toasts with apples make a great start to the day. You can prepare this dish in advance the evening before, and in the morning just bake it. Serve the appetizer at the table.

1. Peel the apples, remove the cores, and slice. Cut the bread into thick slices. In a small saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together. Whisk until smooth. Cook until the mixture slightly thickens. Add the whiskey and whisk again. Continue cooking for about 1 minute.

2. Pour the oil into the baking pan.

3. Arrange the sliced apples, and place bread slices on top.

4. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour the mixture over the bread.

5. Cover the dish and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, remove the dish from the refrigerator and place it in the oven. Preheat the oven to 175°C. Bake the toasts for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until the apple pieces are soft and the bread is golden. If you are making the toasts in the morning, dip the bread slices in the egg mixture before placing them in the dish. Pour the remaining egg mixture over the bread and bake at 175°C for 40–45 minutes.
