Forshmak (herring pate)
Description
The appetizer is quick and easy to make. Forshmak is perfect for sandwiches and toast. It can be stored in the refrigerator in a sterilized jar for quite a long time: about 4–5 days. Some recipes say you should add the herbs to the blender and mix them with the other ingredients, but I like to simply sprinkle them on the finished forshmak. Serve with herbs and sauce.

1. Cut the loaf into pieces of any size and pour milk over it so it soaks well. Take a sour apple, peel it, remove the seeds, and cut it into pieces of any size. Cut the onion and egg as well.

2. Cut the herring fillet into pieces and add to the blender. Also add onion, apple, white bread, and egg, and blend well (you can run it through a meat grinder several times if you don't have a blender).
