
Homemade Sprats from Baltic Sprat

Prepare the necessary ingredients.

Steep the tea leaves with boiling water. Set aside.

Take a sauté pan or a heavy-bottomed pot. Crumble 1 bay leaf on the bottom, and add half of the specified amount of pepper and cloves.

Strain the brewed tea. Add sugar and salt. Stir.

Place the prepared sprats in a sauté pan or pot. On top, crumble the second bay leaf and add the second half of the pepper and cloves. Pour in the tea and vegetable oil. Place over heat. As soon as everything comes to a boil, reduce to the lowest heat and simmer for 1 hour 10 minutes. Do not stir! You can gently shake the pot.

When the time is up, remove the finished sprats from the heat. Leave under a closed lid for 3 hours at room temperature.
