Homemade Nut Candies with Condensed Milk
Description
Homemade baked treats for tea. Classic homemade "nuts" with condensed milk are made from shortbread dough, but using butter instead of margarine. The filling is made of dulce de leche (to save time, you can use ready-made). An essential requirement for making them is having a pizzelle iron. However, using cookie cutters, you can bake regular cookies following this recipe—they will also be very delicious. Serve cooled or slightly warm.
Instructions

Step 1

1. According to the classic recipe, nuts are baked using margarine, but since I was cooking for a child, I used only butter.
- 2
Step 2

2. Immediately rub the butter with sugar (you can add a bit of vanilla to taste), then add the baking soda (neutralize it with vinegar). I also added a pinch of salt, but this is optional. Then add the butter and gradually incorporate the flour (as much as the dough will take).

Step 3

3. Knead an elastic and soft dough and refrigerate it for 30 minutes.
- 4
Step 4

4. Roll small-sized balls, and put the remaining dough in the refrigerator.
- 5
Step 5

5. I have a stovetop waffle iron. While I was rolling the balls, I heated it to the desired temperature.
- 6
Step 6

6. Fry the nuts until golden brown, then transfer them to a dish and let them cool slightly. Meanwhile, finish frying the rest.
- 7
Step 7

7. When the nuts have cooled, separate them from each other and set aside the crumbs separately.
- 8
Step 8

8. Now you can fill the cooled nuts with condensed milk. You can use ready-made caramel, but I prefer to make it myself (I cook it for 1.5 hours over medium heat).

Step 9

9. When you start filling the nuts, dip each one into the chopped crumbs (this will fill the gaps and make them even tastier).
