Homemade stuffed cabbage rolls
Description
The recipe won't take much time. A delicious and tasty main dish for the whole family. Many home cooks surely have their own signature recipe. I'll share my favorite and well-tested one—juicy and tender cabbage rolls with a flavorful sauce. Serve hot.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare all the ingredients from the list. Choose large-sized cabbage for cabbage rolls, not too tight, so it's easier to separate the leaves. The meat filling can be made from any meat, but the classic recipe uses a mixture of beef and pork.
- 2
Step 2

To easily separate the cabbage head, first cut out the core. Then place the cabbage into a pot of boiling water for a few minutes. The leaves will start loosening on their own—just help them along with a fork or kitchen tongs. Don't overcook; remove the leaves as soon as they become soft and pliable, otherwise they will start tearing.
- 3
Step 3

Place the prepared cabbage leaves on a colander to drain the water.
- 4
Step 4

Peel the onion and carrot, then chop. Grate the carrot on a coarse grater and cut the onion into small cubes. Sauté the vegetables in vegetable oil until soft. Remove from heat.
- 5
Step 5

Rinse the rice and cook it in salted water until almost done.
- 6
Step 6

In a deep bowl, combine the minced meat, sautéed vegetables, and rice. Season the filling with salt and pepper to taste. You can add your favorite spices.
- 7
Step 7

Mix well.
- 8
Step 8

Place the cabbage leaf in front of you; you can cut out the coarse part with a knife or gently tenderize it with a mallet.
- 9
Step 9

Place 1-2 tablespoons of filling on each leaf, depending on the size of the leaves.
- 10
Step 10

Fold into a triangle. Do the same with the remaining filling and leaves.
- 11
Step 11

Heat a skillet with oil, place the prepared cabbage rolls in it, and fry over high heat on both sides, covered with a lid, until lightly golden.
- 12
Step 12

Separately combine sour cream, tomato paste, and flour. Mix well, then slowly pour in water or cabbage broth in a thin stream. Add sugar and salt to taste. The sauce is ready.
- 13
Step 13

Place the cabbage rolls into any thick-bottomed dish.
- 14
Step 14

Pour the sauce over them, cover with a lid, and simmer over low heat for 50-60 minutes.
- 15
Step 15

Homemade stuffed cabbage rolls are ready.
- 16
Step 16

Serve hot.
- 17
Step 17

Serve at the table.
